Abstract: Modern endpoints are playing a critical role in helping organizations improve user productivity, security,

and the overall digital work experience—with or without immediate AI adoption. While AI PCs and workstations

introduce new capabilities and unlock new use cases, their immediate value lies in how they support broader

business and IT priorities, from hybrid work to digital transformation. HP and AMD are enabling this with integrated

solutions that combine advanced hardware, local AI compute, and platform-level management and security into a

future-ready foundation that delivers measurable benefits today and positions organizations for what comes next.

Introduction

There’s no shortage of excitement around AI—and for good reason. AI is poised to impact every area of the

business and could even change the face of business itself. For most organizations, though, the real opportunity

isn’t just about deploying AI workloads—it’s in creating a modern, flexible environment that leverages AI to improve

user productivity, security, and satisfaction and support the broader goals of the overall organization.

Endpoints play a key role in this, but success depends on more than just incremental improvements like faster

processors and more memory. It requires secure, manageable high-performance devices that serve as a

foundation for broader initiatives that organizations have prioritized, such as improving productivity, enabling hybrid

work, and advancing digital transformation.

In fact, recent Enterprise Strategy Group research into the factors that are most important in justifying IT

investments showed a clear preference for solutions that improve cybersecurity, enable digital transformation,

improve customer experience, and increase employee productivity—all of which ranked higher than solutions that

support generative AI (GenAI) initiatives (see Figure 1).1 That’s not saying GenAI isn’t important, but it does show

that, to be successful, GenAI must support the bigger picture priorities.

This means that, in many ways, AI is not a destination. Rather, AI is a critical accelerator that can help organizations

meet their evolving goals. As such, the investments made today can have both immediate and long-term impacts

on security, visibility, and user experience—regardless of where an organization is on the AI adoption spectrum.

And while the benefits of AI are often discussed in terms of high-profile use cases, such as generative assistants or

creative tools, there’s just as much value in the capabilities happening quietly in the background.

Modernization That Serves Both IT and the Business

This wave of change driven by AI means that modern devices equipped with local AI compute are already

delivering meaningful advantages that support business objectives regardless of organizational AI adoption status.

Some of these are obvious, such as collaboration enhancements (e.g., improved video quality, background noise

suppression, or real-time transcriptions during meetings) or local inference engines that enhance security by

improving threat detection using on-device models that can prevent attacks from ever reaching the network.

Others are less visible, though arguably more consequential. For example, advances in CPUs and NPUs are

increasing the performance and efficiency of the hardware itself, which results in better performance, longer battery

life, and even better thermals than ever before. Plus, hardware-based management capabilities are now common,

offering a better out-of-box and day-to-day management experience.

So, while AI features unlock new possibilities and use cases, this modern hardware is already delivering tangible

value in areas that matter most to IT: productivity, user experience, security, and manageability.

It’s no surprise, then, that 91% of organizations have already started deploying or plan to deploy modern AI PCs

(see Figure 2).2

Whether directly related to AI workloads or not, the same research showed that AI PCs are driving tangible benefits

in key areas that align with IT priorities:3

• End-user productivity is the most widely observed benefit to date, cited by 45% of organizations—a clear signal that modern devices are helping drive employee efficiency and experience.

• Faster data processing and analysis is reported by 41% of organizations, supporting efforts to accelerate digital transformation and enable data-driven innovation.

• Enhanced security through AI-powered threat detection is being realized by more than one-third of organizations (34%), helping strengthen endpoint protection and reduce risk.

• Improved collaboration experiences, including enhanced image/video processing and better audio/visual quality in meetings, are delivering value across many organizations, with more than one-quarter already reporting tangible gains in these areas.

Benefits Lead to New Use Cases

While everyone can get benefits from modern endpoint features that are unrelated to AI, the AI-specific value is

often tied to the individual role of the user or device. For example, AI developers and data-heavy users are among

those deriving the biggest benefit from AI-oriented features today. In fact, according to Enterprise Strategy Group

research into the purchasing trends of AI-enabled endpoints, software developers and data scientists trailed only IT

in a ranked list of which roles or departments are most likely to be given devices with local AI capabilities (see

Figure 3).4

Meanwhile, knowledge workers are benefitting from performance gains, enhanced collaboration experiences, and

improved endpoint security, each of which aligns with broad business and IT priorities. Though most AI workloads

today are cloud-based, a shift is expected to take place as more devices with local AI capabilities are deployed and

the software development ecosystem matures.

Selecting the right devices to match these diverse needs requires more than just evaluating hardware

specifications. Understanding software requirements, workflow expectations, and user experience goals—both of

the organization and of the end users themselves—is critical to maximizing the value of endpoint modernization

investments. And as AI features expand and become more embedded in everyday workflows, the range of relevant

use cases will continue to grow, further increasing the value of aligning endpoint choices to specific roles,

workflows, and experience expectations.
